Going back to work after a break can be tough, getting back into an early morning routine is a tough one, especially after Christmas, seen as you’ve become accustomed to staying cosy under your duvet on these cold winter days watching Christmas movies with some hot chocolate and left over Roses. But the reality is, Christmas is over, and so are those cosy days in bed.
You’re back to work.
So here are our tips on how to keep your morale up when you return to work after the Christmas holidays.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and how do you expect to start your day off well if you’re not making the right choices from the outset. This is something you have total control over, so don’t start your day with an empty fuel tank, lift your energy by making a hearty breakfast for your first day back at work. Plan this in advance so you have all the ingredients of your favourite breakfast meal and make sure you give yourself plenty of time to make it. This could be something as simple as granola with yogurt and fruit, or you could go all out and make a fry up, it’s totally up to you.
Plan your day
Having a plan in place can help things go much smoother, knowing what sort of day you intend on having will help you through the though parts. So plan on being positive and take everything in your stride today. Have a catch up with the work friends you didn’t get chance to see over the festive period, ask them what sort of Christmas they had and share stories, interacting with other people and sharing your happy and festive memories will almost certainly boost your morale.
Get to work a little early
I know this is the last thing on your mind, but getting to work 10-15 minutes earlier than your start time will give you chance to settle back in at your desk/office, take a moment to just sit there, maybe make a brew and have a biscuit, prepare yourself for the day ahead. Having that extra 10-15 minutes just to gather your thoughts for the day and prepare your body and mind for the next few hours will really help.
Better your eating habits
You’ve probably grown accustomed to some junk food over the holidays, but now you’re back at work and this is the perfect time to practice some healthy eating habits. I am sure your colleagues will be bringing in left over treats and chocolates to share, but why not replace these with some fruit, maybe an apple or some strawberry’s. Healthy body, healthy mind don’t they say.
